The FtK Club Challenge has been the main focus in schools in recent weeks. From T-shirt design and museum visits to children’s press conferences, the children have been involved with “their” professional football club in a variety of ways. We have collected the great impressions in this article (to be updated soon). We would like to take this opportunity to thank all participating FtK groups once again for their great commitment.

Augsburg

As part of the FtK Club Challenge, the 24 children from Bärenkeller primary and secondary school came up with questions to ask a professional footballer from their club, FC Augsburg, via video message. Due to the pandemic, midfielder Tim Civeja sent greetings to the FtK kids via video and encouraged them to learn. The boys and girls from the fifth grade also designed their diaries and presented their first works of art.

Berlin

Two highlights awaited the children of the Zurich School in Berlin-Köpenick: not only did they get to visit the venerable stadium at the Alte Försterei, but they also had the special pleasure of taking part in a children’s press conference with Union “soccer god” Grischa Prömel. Click here for the full website report.

Bochum

For the boys and girls from “Fußball trifft Kultur” at the Werner von Siemens School, the dream of getting to know a real professional footballer – our project sponsor Christopher Antwi-Adjei – came true. Christopher answered the children’s curious questions at a children’s press conference. Click here for the full website report.

Brunswick

Our Braunschweig program group takes an in-depth look at its partner club as part of the FtK Club Challenge. To start with, they received a surprise package from Eintracht Braunschweig. The FtK participants are already motivated for the rest of the program.

Düsseldorf

A special highlight awaited our Düsseldorf program group on the occasion of our FtK Club Challenge. Together with our partner club Fortuna Düsseldorf, the FtK participants visited the Paul Janes Stadium. The FtK participants learned a lot of interesting facts about the history of their favorite club at Fortuna’s long-standing venue. We are excited to see how the experiences will be presented as part of the FtK Club Challenge.

Duisburg

The FtK participants from our program school in Duisburg show a few impressions of their program training and lessons. Our new Duisburg project mentor Alaa Bakir also answered the children’s questions at a children’s press conference.

Frankfurt

On 9 March 2022, the FtK participants from the Karmeliterschule and the Albert-Schweitzer-Schule waited eagerly in the Eintracht Museum for the program sponsor Muhammed Damar. The Eintracht professional took plenty of time to answer the children’s questions, signed autographs and posed for photos.

Fürth

The program group from Fürth showed their first impressions of the design of their T-shirts. Great motifs were already visible.

Gelsenkirchen

As part of the FtK-ClubChallenge 2022, the primary school pupils of the Friedrich-Grillo-Schule explored the crown jewel of Gelsenkirchen – the VELTINS Arena – on 17.03.2022. Click here for the full website report.

Hamburg

The FtK participants received a great surprise from our partner club. FC St. Pauli provided our FtK participants with new jerseys as part of the FtK Club Challenge. There was also an exciting stadium tour at Millterntor followed by a children’s press conference with Pauli legend and new FtK sponsor Jan-Philipp Kalla. Click here for the full website report.

Regensburg

On the occasion of our FtK Club Challenge, a special highlight awaited our Regensburg program group: the design of their T-shirts! We are already looking forward to seeing the creative ideas of the FtK participants.

Würzburg

As part of the FtK Club Challenge, our partner club Würzburger Kickers provided surprise packages with merchandise from the club. The FtK participants were very grateful. They also showed the first glimpses of the jerseys they had designed themselves. Some great designs were already visible.

FtK Stuttgart – A look back at an eventful school year 2021/22

FtK Stuttgart – Ein Rückblick auf ein ereignisreiches Schuljahr 2021/22
FtK Stuttgart – Ein Rückblick auf ein ereignisreiches Schuljahr 2021/22

The FtK year 2021/22 was eventful, intense and full of fun for the children supported in Stuttgart. From a contemplative Christmas party to a wide range of cultural activities and the final cross-FtK tournament in June – there was plenty on offer.

After a very complicated time for the children and everyone involved, which was mainly characterized by the pandemic-related restrictions, the FtK school year 2021/22 was able to start again with many support offers. The program included team-building measures, a Christmas party, cultural and sporting activities, the FtK Club Challenge and, of course, the big final tournament in Frankfurt in June 2022. Below we have collected a few impressions of selected highlights from the season:

KuBUS and visit to the art museum

The 3rd graders at Lerchenrain School were able to go on a two-part excursion in their first FtK year. On 05.04.2022, the Kubus (short for art bus) came to the school. The kids were allowed to give free rein to their creativity in the “Pure Chance” workshop. The children had great fun tracing different patterns and reassembling small pieces of paper. The kids loved the station with colors, balloons and balls and created beautiful works of art. When it came to drawing portraits, all you could hear was a general giggle. The following week, we went on a guided tour of the Stuttgart Art Museum. Despite initial complaints, the mood in the art museum improved considerably. And the works of art were viewed with varying degrees of interest. One child even had a little drawing book with her to sketch all the artworks for her friends. This meant that the excursion could still be recounted in pictures the next day. And on the way home, there were still lively discussions about the art.

Climbing in Cityrock

On 04.05.2022, the FtK kids from Eichendorff School put on their sports gear, packed their drinks and headed off to climb at Cityrock. A little late, but still highly motivated, the excursion could be started. Once we arrived at Cityrock, we started straight away. To warm up, everyone was allowed to climb along the lower end of the climbing wall. This allowed the kids to get a feel for what was to come. This was immediately followed by a team-building task in which the kids had to imagine transporting materials over a large mountain range. Of course, everyone mastered the task brilliantly and almost all of the climbing equipment was transported over the mountain in the end.

The FtK final tournament

Even on the day before the tournament, the kids’ anticipation was palpable and they were already talking about the cool time ahead on the bus. On the day of the tournament, the Stuttgart FtK group set up in their pavilion and the spectacle could begin. After a slight delay, the first game started at 09:30. The kids were highly motivated, the coach highly concentrated and the rest were simply in a good mood and excited. The Stuttgart kids had a total of five games to play. The other teams in the group were strong, but the group still put up a good fight and managed to win one game after a number of scoring chances. Unfortunately, they had to concede defeat to their opponents in two games, while two other games ended in a well-deserved draw.

After every game, the Stuttgart kids clapped their opponents off with a smile on their faces and thanked them for a great game. The children survived the tournament without any major injuries or heatstroke. The tournament matches themselves were not the only highlights – towards the afternoon, the ambassador of “Fußball trifft Kultur” Ridle Baku dropped by. Ridle is a professional player for VfL Wolfsburg and a German international, making him a magnet for the kids. The Stuttgart kids spotted him first and got his autograph straight away. The picture that was taken later even ended up on social media and his 132,000 followers caught a glimpse of the enthusiastic Stuttgart kids.

After two very exhausting, but exciting and enjoyable days, the children slowly had to say goodbye. They will certainly remember the great time they had. It was a very relaxed atmosphere, many experiences were made as a large team and the children had a unique time. To sum up, the tournament was a special highlight of the “Fußball trifft Kultur” year.

Second network meeting in 2022

Zweites Netzwerktreffen 2022
Zweites Netzwerktreffen 2022

Over 40 teachers and trainers from the 35 “Fußball trifft Kultur” locations across Germany took part in the second network meeting of 2022 on November 18 and 19, 2022. In addition to the opportunity to exchange ideas, the meeting offered various workshops and training opportunities.

The network meeting plays a central role in the implementation of the “Fußball trifft Kultur” program. It is both a platform and a place of exchange for the experiences of our FtKers from various locations in Germany and offers the opportunity to network and learn together.

At the second network meeting, innovations were once again presented, discussions held, experiences gathered and tips exchanged. How things are going in the individual program groups, what developments can be observed among the children, where there is a need for action – through a lively exchange, all participants were able to take a lot of information back to their programs.

The main topics on Friday were the workshops “Conflict Resolution” and “Cyberbullying”, which offered our teachers and trainers strategies for dealing with conflicts within the program groups. This was followed by a focus on sustainability in the partner clubs, the main topic for the coming six months. Stephan Bandholz from 1. FSV Mainz 05 gave a keynote speech in which he explained how Mainz 05 is approaching the major topic of sustainability.

The second day of the network meeting focused entirely on exchange and cooperation. Successes, challenges and ideas were exchanged and specific topics worked on in various discussion rounds. The focus was on child protection. Our child protection concept was discussed with all participants and a code of conduct for teachers and trainers was drawn up. The presentation of best practice examples from the programs themselves was particularly valuable, allowing teachers and trainers to learn from and with each other.

We would like to thank all participants for their great commitment and the exciting exchange – we look forward to the next time.

“Wir für morgen” award: 17,500 euros for non-profit organization “LitCam”

We receive 17,500 euros in funding with “Fußball trifft Kultur” as part of Union Investment’s “Wir für morgen” charity initiative.

The charity initiative “Wir für morgen” (We for tomorrow) by the fund management company Union Investment focuses on charitable associations and foundations from all over Germany that are committed to social justice, more equal opportunities and better environmental awareness.
“When we announced the awards publicly for the first time in the spring, we would never have dared to dream that over 230 associations and other organizations would apply for the prizes in the environmental, social and educational categories,” said patron and CEO Hans Joachim Reinke.
Under his chairmanship, the jury team, consisting of actor and documentary filmmaker Hannes Jaenicke (Environment category), former professional footballer and foundation founder Neven Subotic (Social category), “Network Opportunities” founder Natalya Nepomnyashcha (Education category) and a youth jury, selected a total of nine winning projects.
The award ceremony took place on November 20 at the Städel in Frankfurt.

In the education category, we received 17,500 euros in funding from Frankfurt.
With the “Fußball trifft Kultur” project, we are promoting educational equality and equal opportunities nationwide through language and reading promotion.
We specifically use the power of soccer to promote children’s communicative and linguistic engagement.
We would like to use the prize money to support a selected “Fußball trifft Kultur” location in Germany.

Schlappekicker supports “Fußball trifft Kultur”

World champion Nia Künzer presented the Albert Schweitzer School with a donation check worth €2000 as part of the Frankfurter Rundschau’s “Schlappekicker” campaign.

On this day, everything was a little different than usual for the FtK kids at the Albert Schweitzer School. Soccer training yes, but in addition to their soccer coach Kai Klingenhöfer, there was also a woman who once shot Germany to the World Cup title, when they themselves were far from being born. The boys certainly had a lot of fun, it was a great pleasure for them to play together with Nia.

The former footballer herself was not too shy to get involved in a little match with the boys. Here at her old place of work, it was she herself who launched the first all-girls team at “Fußball trifft Kultur” in 2011.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the “Schlappekicker” campaign and the Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper for their support of our integrative education program.

Jürgen Streicher from the Frankfurter Rundschau writes: “Erjon, Karl, Jonathan and all the other talented players from many different countries already have a lot to offer at the age of just under ten. They fight with full commitment, but fair play is the top priority. The boys manage this well and get on well with coach Kai Klingelhöfer. He wears the eagle on his chest and Eintracht on his back, which is always a positive incentive.”

Hello again Frankfurt – Our FtK network meeting

Hello again Frankfurt – Unser FtK-Netzwerktreffen
Hello again Frankfurt – Unser FtK-Netzwerktreffen

Around 40 FtK teachers and trainers from all over Germany came together last weekend for our first FtK network meeting in 2023.

In addition to the training courses on offer, the program focused in particular on sharing current challenges and success stories at the individual locations. We were able to use the facilities at the Protestant Academy on Friday and spent Saturday in the conference rooms at the Haus des Buches.

The main topics at this network meeting focused on suggestions for respectful cooperation as well as the implementation of group rules, strengthening teamwork and promoting reading fluency in the context of DaZ and DaF. Based on the very positive feedback from our FtK teachers and trainers, we are confident that the impetus provided here will be applied in the weekly work with our sponsored children and young people in line with our support approach and will have an impact.

With this in mind, we would like to thank all social pedagogues and workshop leaders for the inspiring days and of course our participating FtK teachers and FtK trainers for their dedicated participation.

Cup deposit for a good cause

With their cup deposit donation on the last home match day, the VfL Bochum fans supported our Bochum “Fußball trifft Kultur” locations with over €4,000.

On a seemingly ordinary Bundesliga Saturday at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion, we at LitCam had the honor and pleasure of collecting donations for our FtK locations in Bochum. The highlight: VfL fans were able to support us directly and easily by dropping off their empty deposit cup in one of nine collection garbage cans. The converted proceeds went in full to our FtK locations in Bochum.

Whether before the game, during the half-time break or after the final whistle: many motivated helpers – mainly teachers and pupils from our cooperation partner Werner-von-Siemens Hauptschule Bochum – collected cups without end. Our loyal FtK mascot Litti was also there, helping out diligently and drawing attention to the campaign. At the end of the day, a whopping €4,000 was raised, which we were very proud of and grateful for.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank VfL Bochum, our volunteers and the VfL fans who supported us and our beneficiary children with this campaign and the associated commitment. We had hardly expected such a willingness to donate on the part of the fans due to the unfortunate outcome of the match for VfL, chapeau!

New Year’s reception 2023

On January 26, 2023, we welcomed sponsors and cooperation partners to the Haus des Buches for our fourth New Year’s reception.

Oliver Schlimm, Head of Human Resources at the Börsenverein Group, hosted the evening in his traditional entertaining manner.
LitCam Director Karin Plötz gave an exciting review of the past year 2022, which had a lot to offer, from our major project “Löwenstark – Fußball trifft Kultur” to the Kulturstadion at the Frankfurt Book Fair and the fifth edition of Lese-Kicker.
A special reason to celebrate was the 15th anniversary of our nationwide educational program “Fußball trifft Kultur”, for which we hosted an illustrious panel discussion.

This consisted of personalities who have shaped FtK and who all represent an important part of our program in different ways: Nia Künzer (former soccer world champion, head of the department for integration, social support and volunteering), Anton Schumacher (pedagogical director of the youth training center at Eintracht Frankfurt) and Jonas Schuster (pedagogical director of the youth training center at 1. FSV Mainz 05).
All three talked about their very own and at the same time unifying experiences from the program – with one or two anecdotes and a little reminiscing about the past.
In addition, a variety of impressions from the youth performance centers were described and Nia Künzer gave exciting insights into her day-to-day work as head of the department responsible for integration.

Following the impressive round of talks, the buffet was opened – special thanks go to Ms. Durgun and her team from Elzem-Cateringservice for the freshly prepared and particularly tasty Anatolian-Oriental dishes.
We would also like to thank Weinhaus Grüneburgweg for providing the drinks that harmoniously accompanied the evening’s finale.

We would like to thank all our guests for the very pleasant exchange and the support they gave us and look forward to seeing you again soon at different locations.

The Wild Bunch as guests in Düsseldorf

Die Wilden Kerle zu Gast in Düsseldorf
Die Wilden Kerle zu Gast in Düsseldorf

A very special highlight awaited the Düsseldorf FtK group this winter – “Die Wilden Kerle” cult author Joachim Masannek paid the children a visit at the Merkur-Spiel-Arena.

After a successful tour of the arena in midsummer of the 2021/22 school year – with a look behind the sacred halls of the players and officials, dressing rooms, press box, training pitches, but also first steps on the Fortuna Düsseldorf pitch and other non-public spaces – there was a reading in the winter of this school year as part of Lese-Kicker 2022 in honour of the young heroes of the Flurstraße community elementary school in Düsseldorf. The meeting point for all “Fußball trifft Kultur” participants was the Bundesliga club’s home ground – the Merkur-Spiel-Arena.

In a good mood and kissed by the midday sun, everyone made their way through the already familiar arena towards the grandstand seats. To be precise, to the VIP seats, what a great atmosphere! Before the official reading began, the audience was treated to an entertaining anecdote about the beginnings of the Wild Bunch, the “real” Wild Bunch. After all, Joachim Masannek is not only the director, screenwriter and children’s book author of the Wild Bunch, but also their coach and father! An internationally renowned story of the young footballers that is actually based on true events.

After the reading, the children were of course allowed to get autographs from the cult author. In summary, it can be said that the children were very enthusiastic about Mr. Masannek’s reading, as he was very entertaining and skillfully involved his audience. The children were able to participate interactively in the story and “help tell” it. In addition to the reading, the children also really enjoyed the book “Die Wilden Kerle – Juli und der geheime Joker”.

The Lese-Kicker 2022 as a guest at FtK Braunschweig

On Wednesday, November 30, 2022, the Lese-Kicker 2022 stadium tour was a guest at Eintracht Stadium. With an exciting reading and “exclusive” stadium insights, there was plenty on offer for our FtK kids from Braunschweig.

As part of the stadium tour of our nationwide reading promotion project Lese-Kicker 2022 , author Birgit Hasselbusch presented her latest soccer book “Hallo, hej und Marhaba – Freundschaftsspiel mit Doppelpass” to our FtK kids from Diesterwegstraße elementary school – a story about the integrative power of soccer and how it brings children from different backgrounds together. The reading took place in the press room of Eintracht Braunschweig’s stadium – a special atmosphere with enthusiastic children who took part in the reading with a lot of fun and curiosity.

© LitCam/Witters

The children were not only wonderfully entertained by the reading. The author also impressed them with her ability to speak backwards and had a few anecdotes from her sports journalism background to tell. An all-round successful event, in which the children also had the opportunity to spend time on the edge of the pitch of the Eintracht stadium with its blue tartan track and so soak up a little stadium atmosphere from a player’s perspective – without the missing loud crowd, of course.

With this project Lese-Kicker LitCam awards a prize to the most appealing children’s and youth book in terms of idea, linguistic realization and graphic design that best succeeds in inspiring people to read about soccer. As part of a Germany-wide reading promotion campaign that accompanies the Lese-Kicker The books are also judged by 100 school classes from all over Germany. This means that Lese-Kicker is not just an award ceremony, but a nationwide reading promotion project in which the children of the participating schools are encouraged to read and engage intensively with the books with the help of teaching materials tailored to the books.
